William Woods Women’s Golf Finishes First at Fulton Medical Center Invite


The William Woods University Women’s Golf Team, sponsored by Fulton Medical Center, won the Fulton Medical Center Invitational on Wednesday. The Owls shot 35-over par 611 (306-305) to claim the top spot.

The Owls finished 42 shots in front of second place Columbia College. Columbia finished second with a score of 77-over par 653 (325-328) for the tournament. For complete team results, click here. For complete player results, click here.

WWU finished in the top three spots of the Invitational. Leading the way for the Owls was Megan Cullen. Cullen, was the first day leader, shot five over 77 for the second round finishing four-over par 148 (71-77) to win. She finished one shot in front of teammate, Katie Warren. Warren shot four-over par 76 for the second round. For the tournament she was five-over par 149 (73-76).

Fumika Matsumoto finished third for the Owls. She entered the final round in fourth place and moved up to third after a two-over 74. Matsumoto, carded an eagle on the par four sixth hold at Tanglewood Golf Course. She finished nine-over par 153 (79-74). Jade Shellback improved five spots during the final round to finish tied for fifth. She shot six-over par 78 in the final round. She finished the tournament 19-over par 163 (85-78). Rounding out the Owls was Alex Bankovich. She finished in seventh place after shooting nine-over par 81 in the second round. She was 20-over par 164 (83-81) for the tournament.

Playing as individuals for the Owls were Kelsey Moreland, Nikki Callahan and Brooke Barrett. Moreland lead the way of the individuals as she finished in 13th place. She shot an 29-over par 173 (91-82) for the tournament. Callahan followed finishing in 15th place with a score of 33-over par 177 (92-85). Barrett rounded out the Owls playing in the tournament with a score of 35-over par 179 (88-91) for a 16th place finish.

The Owls return to action on Monday, October 17th when they travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas to play in the Lady Red Wolves Classic, hosted by Arkansas State.
