The William Woods University men’s golf team, sponsored by Fulton Medical Center, opened up AMC Championship play on Monday as they are looking for its fourth straight championship.

After the first 36-holes of the tournament, the Owls lead by 35 shots. WWU shot a two-round total of four-over par 572 (286-286) on the day. WWU has the top three individuals at the event, including the leader Billy McKenzie<http://wwuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1988> who is three-under par 139 (73-66). Over the first 36 holes of the AMC Championship, the Owls jumped out to a commanding lead, as Billy McKenzie<http://wwuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1988> led the Owls. After shooting two-over par 73 in the first round, McKenzie answered back in the second round as he was five-under par 66. For the round he is three-under par 139 (73-66).

Following McKenzie is Matt Wells<http://wwuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1993>. Wells led the tournament after the first round as he shot two-under par 69. He followed that with a round of one-over par 72. He currently shits in second place with a score of one-under par 141 (69-72). McKenzie and Wells are the only golfers to be under par after 36 holes.

Junior, Jack Clarkson<http://wwuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1979> finds himself in third place after the first two rounds of the AMC Championship. Clarkson shot a first round total of even-par 71 in the first round and one-over par 72 on the second round.

David Houlding<http://wwuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1981>, a senior from Leeds, England, finds himself tied for sixth. On the day, Houlding shot eight-over par 150 (74-76). He was three-over par in the first round and five over par in the second round.

Rounding out the Owls was sophomore, Mark Martin<http://wwuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1986>. The Rolla, Mo. native finds himself tied for 18th place after the first two rounds of the AMC Championship. He shot two-over par 73 in the first round and sat in third place. However, the second round, Martin shot 11-over par 82 falling into a tie for 18th. He currently sits 13-over par 155 (73-82).

The Owls return to action on Tuesday, April 25th for the final round of the AMC Championships. The winner of the AMC Championship receives an automatic berth into the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship, which will be held May 16-19 at TPC Deere Run in Moline, Ill.
