UMSL’s Capesius, Ivanova Earn All-GLVC Honors in Women’s Golf


ST. LOUIS, MO., May 10, 2016 – Sophomores Alexa Capesius and Stefaniya Ivanova of the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s golf team have been named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Capesius posted a team second-best scoring average of 78.88 and earned six top-10 finishes, including four runner-up finishes. Capesius also set a single season record with 45 birdies. Among her finishes was a second place showing out of 62 golfers at the Oak Terrace Fall Invite, where she turned in a personal best 147 (72-75). Capesius was also second at the Las Vegas Desert Classic with a 150 (74-76) in the field of 62 golfers. She tied for seventh at the GLVC Championships with a 54-hole score personal best 229 (78-73-78).

Ivanova earns All-GLVC honors for the second straight year after leading the Tritons with a 78.44 scoring average. She recorded five top-10 finishes, which included earning medalist honors at the Gilda’s Club Laker Fall Invite with a 36-hole school record score of 141 (71-70). Ivanova placed ninth at the GLVC Championships, shooting a 230 (83-76-71). Her season scoring average ranks seventh in program history, while her 44 birdies this year trail only Capesius’ 45. Ivanova enters her junior campaign third in career scoring (78.90).

UMSL posted a scoring average of 316.04 and won three tournaments, while also recording seven top-three finishes.
