Butler leads Tigers through round one
Columbia, Mo. – Redshirt Junior Michelle Butler led the Tigers through the first round of play at the SunTrust Gator Invitational, finishing the round 5-over par. As a team, the Tigers currently sit 14th overall, with a score 35-over par. Mizzou is just nine strokes out of the top five, while Arizona leads the tournament with a score 15-over par.
“The course was certainly a challenge today and we knew it would be tough to hold shots on these new greens,” head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. “We hit a lot of good shots that weren’t rewarded and we just have to come back tomorrow with some grit and determination to compete on every single shot.”
Mizzou’s two Scotland natives are tied for 46th overall as both Jess Meek and Clara Young shot 9-over par through the first round of play. Just three strokes behind is senior Laura Kraft who shot 12-over par. Senior Alina Rogers is not far behind as well as she finished 15-over par in the first round.
The 2015 SunTrust Gator Invitational continues with the second round tomorrow, tee times start at 9 a.m. Hosted by the University of Florida, the tournament is being played at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla. The Tigers join 14 other teams on the Par 70, 6,701-yard course.
The tournament field is composed of No. 10 Arizona, Clemson, Denver, FIU, Florida, Florida State, GRU, Kent State, Missouri, No. 23 NC State, Ohio State, Penn State, Tulane, No. 19 UCF and UTSA.
