Boy Scouts To Host Total Solar Eclipse Golf Tournaments

The Great Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America will host simultaneous golf tournaments during the total solar eclipse that will come through Mid-Missouri on August 21st. Tournaments will be held at the Jefferson City Country Club and the Country Club of Missouri in Columbia.  You choose your course; both are in the path of the total solar eclipse. The tournaments are presented by Joe Machens Ford.

“Certainly no one around here has played golf during a total solar eclipse,” says Doug Callahan, Scout Executive of the Great Rivers Council. “These courses will provide a wonderful opportunity to view this once in a lifetime event and enjoy a great day of golf.”

The tournament is a four-person scramble starting at 11:00 AM. Players will be provided food, beverages, and snacks before, during and after golf. Each will receive a commemorative golf shirt, eclipse viewing glasses, and a glow in the dark ball so the eclipse does not have to interfere with the pace of their game. There are prizes for teams and you will be challenged by closest to the pin, long drive, and hole-in-one contests.

“Scouting continues to rely on events and contributions from members of the community for funding of the quality programs we are able to deliver,” said Callahan.  “A team entered in this tournament contributes the necessary resources to pay for camps and fund other District and Council Scouting activities. This has been the most anticipated fundraiser for many years.”

Registration for the event is available online at www.BSA-GRC.org, please call the Great Rivers Council at 800-726-8852 ext. 205 with any questions or concerns.

“We appreciate the support that our fundraising events have received from the community in the past,” says Callahan.  “and we hope pairing our golf event with the total solar eclipse will provide an extra incentive to come out and play on these beautiful courses to support Scouting.”
