William Woods Women’s Golf Finishes Second at Holiday Inn Express Classic


The William Woods University women’s golf team sponsored by Fulton Medical Center finished runner-up at the Holiday Inn Express Classic, which was held at the St. Joseph Country Club.

WWU shot a score of 51-over par 627 (313-314) for the two-day tournament to finish runner-up. The Owls finished two shots behind Henderson State, who shot 49-over par 625 (313-312) for the two rounds. The runner-up finish for the Owls is its five top five finish of the season. Leading the Owls was Katie Warren<http://wwuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1972>. Warren, a junior from Swindon, England, earned the individual championship. She shot a two-day score of nine-over par 153 (76-77). Entering the final round, she trailed the leader by two shots.

Finishing tied for a runner-up finish at the meet was Owls Fumika Matsumoto<http://wwuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1974>. Matsumoto entered the final round tied for 10th but shot three-over par 75 for the final round and improved eight spots. She shot 11-over par 155 (80-75) for the tournament.

Megan Cullen<http://wwuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1967> found herself finishing tied for fourth at the Holiday Inn Express Classic. She shot round of 78 and 79 to finish 13-over par 157. The fourth place finish for Cullen, a junior from Morecambe, England, was her second top five finish of the season.

Freshman Lucy Matthews<http://wwuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=2243> finished tied for 11th at the tournament. Matthews was 18-over par, 162 (79-83) on the tournament.

Rounding out the Owls was Alex Bankovich<http://wwuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1965> as she finished tied for 38th. She shot 32-over par 176 (83-93) at the Holiday Inn Express Classic.

Nikki Callahan<http://wwuowls.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1966>, who was golfing, as an individual for the Owls did not score in the second round as she withdrew.

WWU returns to action on Monday, March 27, when they host the Fulton Medical Center/WWU Spring Invite at Tanglewood Golf Course.
