William Woods Men’s Golf Leads AMC Championship After Day 1


CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – After the first two rounds of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Men’s Golf Championship, the William Woods University Men’s Golf team, sponsored by Boone Hospital Center, holds a 28 stroke lead as the Owls shot five-over par 581 (297-284) during the first two rounds.

Columbia College comes in second after shooting 33-over par 609 (302-207) on the day. Freed-Hardeman University and Lindenwood University – Belleville come in tied for third after firing a two round total of 36-over par.

Finding himself leading after the first day is David Houlding as he fired 3-under par 141 (74-67) on the day. After finishing 2-over par in the first round, Houlding responded by shooting five-under 67 for the second round to take the lead. Houlding holds a one shot lead over Facundo Delapenna of Lindenwood-Belleville after the first day.

Matt Wells finds himself in third place after shooting one-over par 145 (73-72) on the first day. Wells found himself one-over after the first round and fired an even-par 72 during the second round at Dalhousie Golf Club.

After shooting a round of four-over par 76, Billy McKenzie, the defending AMC Champion, shot one-under 71 in the second round. McKenzie finds himself in fifth place, 3-over par 147 (76-71) after day one.

Jack Clarkson sits in eighth places in the tournament as he shot five-over par 149 (75-74) on the day. Clarkson shot three-over 75 on the first round and two-over par 74 on the second round.

Alasdair McDougall is six-over par 150 (75-75) and is tied for ninth in the tournament. McDougall was one-under on the front nine of the course in the first two rounds, however, he ran into problems on the back as he was 4-over each round.

The Owls will return to action tomorrow, Tuesday, May 3rd when they close out the AMC Men’s Golf Championship.
