William Woods Men’s Golf Finishes Second at The Arch Cup

EUREKA, Mo. – The William Woods University Men’s Golf Team, sponsored by Fulton Medical Center, finished second, six-over par 574 (284-290) to finish second at The Arch Cup held at The Legends Golf Club on Tuesday.

The Owls finished 13 strokes behind the winner University Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL), who shot seven-under par 561 (286-275) for the 36-hole tournament. Leading UMSL was Markus Lindberg who shot 11-under par 134 (74-60) over the two rounds. His second round 60 is a course record.

Leading William Woods was senior Billy McKenzie. The Portsmouth, England native, led after the first round as he shot four-under par. He finished tied for second place as he finished the day three-under par, 139 (67-72).

Following McKenzie was Jack Clarkson, who shot even-par for the tournament. Clarkson, a junior from Hambleton, England, finished sixth in the event, Clarkson shot one-under for the first round and one-over for the second round. He finished 142 (70-72) over the tournament.

David Houlding finished third for the Owls as he finished tenth overall. Houlding shot four-over par 146 (71-75). The Leeds, England native, shot a first round even-par before shooting four-over for the second round.

Mark Martin finished fourth for the Owls with a score of six-over par 148 (76-72). After shooting five-over during round one, Martin rebounded shooting only one-over for the second round. He finished tied for 12th.

Finishing tied for 32nd was James Rogers who shot 12-over par 154 (76-78) at The Arch Cup. Rogers shot five-over par 76 in the first round came back firing a round of 78, seven-over par to close out his tournament.

Golfing as individuals for the Owls was Will Rushworth and Brad Kane. Rushworth shot finished 55th at the event as he shot 26-over par 168 (86-82). Kane finished 16-over par 158 (88-70) for a tied for 41st place finish. Kane shot 17-over par before bouncing back to shoot one-under par in the second round.

William Woods returns to action on October 4-5 when they host the Fulton Medical Center/WWU Invitational at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, Mo.
