William Woods Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth at NAIA Preview


The William Woods University Men’s Golf Team, sponsored by Fulton Medical Center, finished fourth out of 20 teams at the NAIA Fall Preview held at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.

The Owls shot 38-over par 606 (307-299) for the two-day event. WWU finished four shots out of first place and one shot behind third place. Grand View University won the event by shooting 34-over par 602 (306-296).

Senior Billy McKenzie led the Owls as he shot an even par 71 in the second round. He finished the tournament tied for third place, two shots behind two golfers who tied for the win, shooting four-over par 146 (75-71). His round of even par is his third round this season at or below par. This is his third top five finish of the season.

Finishing tied for 13th for the Owls was David Houlding. Houlding shot a final round six-over par 77 for the tournament. He was 10-over par 152 (75-77) for the NAIA Preview.

Moving up seven spots on the final day was Jack Clarkson. Clarkson shot four-over par 75 for his second round. He finished the tournament tied for 20th as he shot 13-over par 155 (80-75).

James Rogers improved three spots on the final day as he finished the NAIA Preview tied for 24th. He was five-over par 76 on the final round. He finished the tournament 14-over par 156 (80-76). His round of 76 today, matches his low round for the year.

Rounding out the Owls golfers was Mark Martin. Martin finished tied for 40th at the tournament. He shot a 12-over par 83 on the final round and finished 18-over par 160 (77-83).

William Woods returns to action on Monday, October 24th when they participate in the Columbia Cougar Invitational, which will be held at the Columbia Country Club.
