UMSL Women’s Golf in Sixth Place After Opening Round of NCAA Regional


SPRINGFIELD, ILL., May 2, 2016 – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s golf team shot an opening round score of 320 on day one of competition at the NCAA East Regional and sits in sixth place in the 12-team field.

Defending national champion Indianapolis fired an eight-over par 296 to finish six strokes better than second place Grand Valley State (302). Findlay (304) and Southern Indiana (305) round out the top four teams, while Ashland was five strokes better than the Tritons in fifth place.

The top three teams, along with the top three individuals not with a team, will advance to the 2016 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships, held May 17-21 in Denver, Colo.

Sophomore Alexa Capesius and junior Alix Beriard each shot a team-best 78 and are tied for 16th place, while sophomores Ares Boira and Maxi Roth each turned in an 82 and are tied for 37th. Sophomore Stefaniya Ivanova rounded out the scoring with an 86.

Findlay’s Kasey Petty leads all individuals with her score of 67.

Second round action continues tomorrow beginning at 8:30 a.m. before competition concludes on Wednesday.
