UMSL Men’s Golf Ranked No. 18 in Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Preseason Poll
The University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s golf team begins the 2017-18 season ranked No. 18 in the Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Preseason Poll.
Under the direction of ninth-year head coach Troy Halterman, the Tritons begin their quest for a fifth straight NCAA appearance on September 5 at the annual Arch Cup at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis.
UMSL is coming off its sixth NCAA Regional appearance in the last seven years and a 2016-17 campaign in which they won four tournaments and placed in the top four in nine. The Tritons also posted a school record single season scoring average of 291.25.
UMSL will be led by senior Markus Lindberg, a two-time All-American and the reigning GLVC Player of the Year. As a junior, Lindberg led the Tritons with a 72.64 average, which ranks as the program’s best single-season mark. Lindberg had five top-10 finishes, including three first place showings. In the Tritons’ first tournament during the fall season, Lindberg became just the 10th collegiate player at any level to shoot a round of 60. He enters his senior season with a program-best career scoring average of 74.25 and as the co-career leader for rounds of par or better (29).
Other returners include junior James Henderson, who owned a scoring average of 75.17, and sophomore Chris Ferris, who competed in 10 tournaments in his freshman campaign, posting a scoring average of 76.55.
UMSL will play in five tournaments this fall, which includes hosting the Midwest Regional on Oct. 9-10 at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Mo.
The spring portion of the schedule features another four tournaments with trips to South Carolina, Las Vegas, Alabama and Florida.
