
UMSL Men’s Golf Finishes Fall Season with a Win at UIS Island Getaway
RIO GRANDE, PUERTO RICO, October 27, 2015 – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s golf team shot 290 on its final 18 holes of the UIS Island Getaway on Tuesday to capture its third team title this year.
The Tritons, playing in their final tournament of the season, entered the final round in third place, three strokes out of the lead, after carding a 297 yesterday. UMSL’s team score of 587 was three strokes better than North Alabama, who finished second in the 11-team field, and also represented a 36-hole season best score.
Seniors Colby Yates and Anthony Cope and sophomore Markus Lindberg all earned all-tournament honors for their top-five finishes. Yates was the individual runner-up, turning in a 144 (71-73), while Cope tied for third place with a 146 (74-72). Lindberg tied for fifth place with a 147 (74-73).
Medalist honors went to North Alabama’s Forrest Knight (68-70 – 138).
Also for the Tritons, junior Matt Barry tied for 13th place with a 151 (79-72), while junior Julien de Poyen tied for 27th place with a 154 (78-76).
Junior Jose Acevedo tied for 10th place while competing as an individual, shooting a 150 (75-75), while sophomore Gordon Hundley tied for 36th place (74-82 – 156).
UMSL begins spring competition February 22-23 at the Newberry Invitational in Kiawah Island, S.C.
