KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC women’s golf head coach Brianna Broderick announced on Thursday that the ’Roos have signed Cyrielle Kern (Cuvry, France) and Celine Lim (Shah Alam, Singapore) to join the program for the fall 2016 semester. Kern will be a junior after attending college in Luxembourg for two years while Lim enters her junior season on the links after transferring from Missouri Western, where she competed for the NCAA Division II National Championship.
“We are excited to announce the signing of Cyrielle and Celine. Both of these young ladies will add a competitiveness to our program needed to drive our team to new heights,” Broderick said. “Cyrielle and Celine both have the competitive nature, internal drive and motivation, and intellectual capabilities to achieve any endeavor they set their minds to. Celine’s experience playing in the NCAA Division II National Championship, coupled with Cyrielle’s international playing experience will benefit both of these ladies as they transition into the culture of our program. We are excited they decided to become ’Roos and look forward to welcoming them to Kansas City in August.”
Kern has attended college at Lycée Robert Schuman in Luxembourg, France, for the past two years. She did not compete in golf competitively during that time period.
During her prep career, Kern recorded a 77.0 scoring average at Lycée Louis de Cormontaigne high school in Metz, France, and was ranked No. 80 nationally. She participated with Luxembourg’s team at the European Golf Club Trophy event in 201112 and was the three-year Champion of Lorraine from 2010-12.
As a sophomore in 2015-16, Lim was named second-team All-MIAA after posting an 80.2 stroke average in 21 rounds. She recorded one top-five finish, two top-10 performances and finished in the top 20 individually five times in 10 events. The Griffons placed 12th as a team at the Division II National Championship with Lim finishing 70th individually.
Lim was also an MIAA Scholar-Athlete and member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. As a freshman, she qualified for the Central Super Regional. She carded a career-best 71 (-1) during the Central Regional as a sophomore.
Lim was a member of the Malaysian national team in 2012 and graduated from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan USJ12 high school. She competed in the championship flight at
the Faldo Series Cambodian Championship, where she finished second. Lim was awarded the “Order of Merit” for her junior ranking presented by Titleist. She will major in Mechanical Engineering at UMKC.
