The UMKC men’s golf team opened up its 2018 spring season with a 14th place finish in the Louisiana Classics at the Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La.
Francois Lagraulet led the way for the Roos, finishing in a tie for 34th at +2, 218 (71-72-75). The Frenchman opened the event with a first round 71 that featured a bogey-free, three-birdie back nine, while he added two more birdies on the front nine. In round two, he followed with a 72 that included a run of five straight birdies from Nos. 3-7, while in round three he posted a 75 that featured two birdies, including his third straight on the par-5 7th.
Countryman Paul Foulquie finished one shot behind at +3 in a tie for 40th, including a first round that had four birdies and just one bogey. In round two, he followed with a three birdie 74 and in round three shot a 76 with a pair of birdies.
At +6 was McCain Schellhardt who finished with rounds of 71 and 74 and five birdies on day one, before notching a 77 in round three that included a pair of birdies and an eagle on the par-5 11th.
Sam Humphreys tied for 67th for the Roos at +9, shooting rounds of 78-72-75 with three total birdies, while Matthew Sieg placed 79th at +15 with rounds of 77-71-83 with five birdies, including three in round two.
Texas A&M claimed the team title in the event by eight shots over Illinois, while the Aggies Dan Erickson was the individual medalist.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Mar. 16-17 when they head to Phoenix, Ariz., for the Grand Canyon Invitational at the Grand Canyon University Course.
