Rozner Tied For 2nd, ‘Roos Tied For 8th After Day One Of NCAA Regional
(Kansas City, Mo.) – UMKC men’s golf is tied for eighth after the opening day of play at the Stillwater, Okla., NCAA Regional at Karsten Creek Golf Club after an opening round 308, just five shots out of a top-five position and advancing to the NCAA Championship.
Antoine Rozner led the ‘Roos on opening day, as the senior climbed into a tie for second after playing the final eight holes at four-under. Rozner started the day with a birdie on the par-3 3rd. After slipping to +2 on the day after ten holes, Rozner rebounded with birdies on the par-4 12th and par-3 15th, before closing out the round with the only eagle of the day on the course on the par-5 18th.
Finishing with the second lowest round of the day for the ‘Roos was Rozner’s fellow Frenchman Thibault Vieilledent who is tied for 24th at +4. Vieilledent started the day slow, playing the front nine at +6. Vieilledent, began his turnaround No. 9 when he parred the first of five straight holes before birdieing the par-5 14th. Three more pars followed before a birdie on No. 18 pushed him to +4.
Cameron Wiltse sits in a tie for 49th after a three birdie first round. All three of Wiltse’s birdies came on the front nine, including two back-to-back on the par-4’s of Nos. 4-5.
Jakob Garstecki matched Wiltse with three birdies on day one and sits in a tie for 57th at +10. Garstecki tallied his first birdie on No. 3 and mirrored Vieilledent on the back nine with birdies on No. 14 and No. 18.
Carding the ‘Roos final score of the day was Francois Lagraulet who sits in a tie for 68th at +13. Lagraulet’s two birdies of the day came on No. 5 and the par-4 16th, the lone UMKC birdie of the day on No. 16.
No. 6 Oklahoma State holds the team lead by seven shots over No. 18 Oklahoma, while Louisville, Northwestern, No. 30 Augusta and No. 31 Purdue are sitting in the top-five positions.
Individually, the Cowboys’ No. 53 Stratton Nolen is the leader at -4, while Rozner is tied with the Wildcats’ No. 94 Dylan Wu and Iowa State’s No. 79 Nick Voke two shots back.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow starting at 8 a.m. CT when Lagraulet tees-off on the 10th tee in the second round of the NCAA Regional at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.
