Adam Schenk, a mini-tour pro from Indiana, won the 10th Metropolitan Open yesterday at the Lewis & Clark Course at the CC of St. Albans with a -7 total over 54 holes. Schenk birdied the final hole to capture the title by a shot over friend and roommate on the Latin America Tour Steven Ihm as the pair dueled in the heat over the final 18 holes at the demanding Lewis & Clark layout.
Ihm erased the four shot deficit he had to Schenk at the beginning of the round with a birdie on his 53rd hole and a one shot lead, but Schenk rallied with a four-footer for a birdie of his own on the duo’s 54th hole as Ihm missed a putt for par that would have forced a tie and a playoff for the $25,000 first place purse.
Sam Migdal, the University of Central Missouri standout, one of only three amateurs to survive the 36 hole cut at low 40 and ties, won the low amateur medal with an outstanding +5 performance over the 54 holes at St. Albans.
