Port and Norton Shine at US Senior Amateur Championships

Two-time US Women’s Senior Amateur  champion Ellen Port certainly served notice that she will make a strong defense in seeking her third straight Senior Women’s Amateur title with a -2 144 total in qualifying and the medalist honors by an amazing nine strokes. Ellen began her second round at the Hollywood GC in Deal, NJ with four consecutive birdies en route to a two-under 71 and easily earned the #1 seed as the championship enters the match play portion today.

Missouri’s second qualifier, Diane Chancellor of Glencoe, MO missed the cut into match play.

Bryan Norton, an outstanding senior amateur from Mission Hills, KS completed his 36 hole qualifying at the US Men’s Senior Amateur at Big Canyon CC in Newport Beach, CA with a three-under-par 141 total and the 11th seed entering match play.

St. Louisans Scott Edwards and Craig Hardcastle, qualfiers from the local test in August at Glen Echo CC in St. Louis, both missed the cut that came at five-over-par. Norton’s first round opponent will be determined after this morning’s 15 for 13 playoff for the final match play seeds is completed.
