Mules picked first, Jennies fifth in MIAA Preseason Golf Polls

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Aug. 31, 2016) — The defending NCAA Super Regional champion Mules Golf team was picked to win the MIAA in the Golf Coaches Preseason Poll released by the league office on Wednesday morning. The Jennies were picked to finish fifth on the women’s side.

The Mules received eight of 11 first-place votes and totaled 98 points to claim the top spot. Lindenwood received one first-place vote and 91 points to come in second, while defending MIAA Champion Central Oklahoma had the other two first-place votes and 83 points to come in third. Washburn (77 pts) was fourth with Northeastern State (73 pts) rounding out the top five.

The Mules return three of their five players that competed at last year’s NCAA Championships, including two-time All-American Alex Springer. UCM is ranked No. 9 in the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) preseason poll.

The Jennies tallied 50 points to come in fifth in the women’s poll. Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma each received five first-place votes and 77 points to tie for first. Missouri Western was third with 60 points followed by Lindenwood (56 pts) and UCM to round out the top five.

The Jens return all five players that played in the program’s first ever NCAA Regional last spring.

The Jennies open the season Sept. 6-7 at the Central Region Fall Preview at Prairie Highlands Golf Club in Olathe, Kan., while the Mules open the season Sept. 12-13 at the UNK Invitational at Awarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell, Neb.
