Mules Golf sits in tie for third place after first round of NCAA Super Regional


ALLENDALE, Mich. (May 2, 2016) — The Mules Golf team shot an opening round 294 and sits at 10-over par and in a tie for third place at the NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional at The Meadows Golf Club. The top five teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the NCAA Championships.

Alex Springer led the Mules with an ever par 71 in the opening round. He is tied for seventh individually, five shots back of Brett Green of Tiffin, who sits at five-under par. Travis Mays was one-over par for his round and is tied for 11th. Shayne Allan shot a four-over par 75 and is tied for 39th. Teddy Jones is one shot back of Allan at five-over par and is tied for 52nd, while Cole Dillon sits in a tie for 69th place at seven-over par.

Tiffin University leads the tournament at five-over par after an opening round team total of 289. Southeastern Oklahoma State is two shots back of Tiffin and three ahead of the Mules and Bellarmine in second place.

The Mules will tee off in Tuesday’s second round beginning at 12:05 p.m. on the back nine.
