Mules Golf ranked No. 1 in region, 22nd in nation
Mules Golf continued to hold down the top spot in the NCAA Central Region rankings released on Friday afternoon. In addition, the Mules came in at No. 22 in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA)/Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll. The Mules were ranked No. 20 in last month’s GCAA poll.
The top 10 teams in the final regional poll and the top four individuals not on those teams will earn a bid from the Central Region and will join the top 10 teams and top four individuals not on those teams from the Midwest Region at the 2017 NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional May 8-10 at Awarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell, Neb.
The 54-hole regional tournament will decide the five teams and two individuals not on those teams, who will advance to the NCAA Championships May 22-26 at the Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Fla. The Central Region consists of teams from the MIAA, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), and the Great American Conference (GAC).
The Mules received 71 points in the national rankings to remain in the top 25 at No. 22. West Florida received 13 first-place votes and 421 points to retain the top spot. Barry, Lynn, Florida Southern and Nova Southeastern round out the top five.
The Mules are back in action next week at the MIAA Championships. The 54-hole tournament begins on Monday and runs through Wednesday at Sycamore Ridge Golf Course in Spring Hill, Kan.
