On a day more fit for late fall and football weather, Mules Golf shot a final round 301 in cold, windy and sometimes wet conditions and finished at 30-over par and in fourth place at the MIAA Championships at Sycamore Ridge Golf Course. The Mules also finished second in the season-long MIAA points standings.
Alex Springer shot a two-under par 70 in the final round to lead the Mules. He jumped up the leaderboard and finished in a tie for third place in the individual standings. Shayne Allan shot a 74 in the final round and finished in a tie for 10th place while Travis Simmons finished in a tie for 17th at 10-over par after a final round 77.
Alexander Hughes of Central Oklahoma eagled the final hole to finish at two-under par on the day and one-under for the tournament to claim individual medalist honors. UCO also captured the team title finishing at 20-over par. The Bronchos claimed the tournament and regular season titles.
Springer captured MIAA Player of the Year honors after finishing first in the conference’s season-long points standings. He was joined on the All-MIAA Team by Allan, Dillon and Simmons.
Springer becomes the fourth straight Mule to win the MIAA Player of the Year award and the seventh in the last eight years.
The Mules will learn their postseason fate on Friday afternoon when the NCAA announces the field for the NCAA-II Central/Midwest Super Regional. This year’ super regional is slated for May 8-10 at Awarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell, Neb.
