Mules Golf captures team title at Missouri Western Classic

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The Mules golf team shot a final round total of five-under par 279 to capture the team title by three shots at the Missouri Western/Holiday Inn Express Classic. The Mules finished at 19-over par, 871, three shots better than Central Oklahoma.

Travis Mays shot a final round score of four-under par, 67, to finish in third place overall at even par. Alex Springer andTeddy Jones finished in a four-way tie for fifth place at five-over par. Springer shot a 74 on Tuesday, while Jones shot a three-under par 68.

Cole Dillon shot a final round 70 and finished in a tie for 24th place at 11-over par. Travis Simmons shot a 77 on Tuesday to wrap up his tournament at 19-over par and in a tie for 53rd.

Brent Williamson of Northeastern State finished at three-under par after a final round 69 to claim the individual title.

With the team victory the Mules earn 11 points toward the season-long MIAA standings. They are in first place after two of four conference-sanctioned events with 22 points, three points ahead of second place Central Oklahoma. The Mules hold the top three spots in the individual standings with Travis Mays leading with 27 points. Teddy Jones (26 pts) is second and Alex Springer (24 pts) is third.

The Mules wrap up the fall portion of their schedule on Oct. 26-27 at the Arkansas Tech Invitational at Branson Hills Golf Club in Branson.
