Senior earns honorable mention honors
ST. LOUIS – Missouri State senior Chiara Citterio has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team in women’s golf as an honorable mention, the league announced Friday.
Citterio is part of a group of 16 Valley golfers recognized by league sports information for their work in the classroom and on the course.
She helped the Bears to a second-place finish as a team at the MVC championship on April 21, while claiming fourth individually in the event. A native of Milan, Italy, Citterio fired a 16-over 232 to represent the Bears’ top finisher and earn a spot of the All-MVC Team.
A psychology and gerontology double major with a 3.23 grade-point average, Citterio has been named to the Missouri State Athletic Director’s Honor Roll on three occasions.
She ranks 10th in Missouri State history with a 79.16 scoring average in 80 career rounds, which included a 77.75 mark this season, to tie for 15th in the league. She posted a season-low 74 two times as a senior in the opening rounds of the UALR/Arkansas State Invitational and MVC championship, respectively.
The MVC Scholar-Athlete Team honorable mentions include Katie Clausen (Drake), Hayley Guyton (Illinois State), Olivia Lindsley (Loyola), Megan Schuetz (Wichita State), Bernice Sitompul (Loyola), Amanda Smith (Indiana State), Allison Walsh (Bradley) and Logan Willis (Loyola).
To qualify for consideration for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team, players must have a minimum 3.20 grade-point average and be a key contributor. The team is voted on each year by the league’s 10 sports information directors.
