As many of you know this past June we broke ground on the Ken Lanning Junior Golf Center at our Missouri Golf Association headquarters in Jefferson City. This project has been a dream of mine for many years now and we are getting closer to seeing it become a reality.
The course will be a 9-hole short course, with no hole over 130 yards. The fairways and tee boxes will be made of zoysia grass, and the greens will be field turf, which will allow individuals in wheelchairs or motorized carts to get on the greens and not worry about hurting them like they would on normal grass green.
Our vision and dream for this facility is that it reaches beyond people with disabilities. In addition to groups that serve people with special needs (like The Special Learning Center, Wounded Warriors, Special Olympics Missouri, etc.) we will also host groups like Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, Boys and Girls Club, church groups, etc. that could use the facilities to host camps, meetings, and educational seminars at low or no cost. This golf course is going to be a learning center and place for families to be able to get out and enjoy the game of golf, and for all types of individuals to learn this life-long sport.
Many people have asked me why I am taking on a project of this magnitude. The reason is simple, I want to give something back to a sport that has given me so much. When I reflect back, there is not one single phase of my life in which golf hasn’t been present. I want others to have the same opportunity to learn and experience this game, no matter what barriers they may face.
Please see the attached donation form that includes various levels of funding. If you make a donation you can make it online here or mail it into the MJGA office. Any amount is needed and appreciated, so please give what you can. Your generosity is truly appreciated!
Until I see you on the first tee!!
