Jennies Golf off to a good start in first spring tournament


Jennies Golf got off to a great start in their first round of the spring season, firing a team total of 318 to sit in second place at the SW Minnesota State Invitational at the Wigwam Resort Heritage Course. UCM is plus-30 after day one and trails first place Missouri Western by 10 shots.

Olivia Sobaski led the Jennies on day one with a six-over par 78 and currently sits in a three-way tie for sixth place. Blake Betke was one shot back at seven-over par after an opening round 79 and is tied for ninth. Elizabeth Leath was another shot back with an 80 and is currently tied for 13th place.

Taelyn Entriken shot an opening round 81, nine-over par and is tied for 17th along with Alexa Boatman, Madison Grisham and Jordan Rehkow, who all played as individuals. Kelly Welker is tied for 23rd after a 10-over par 82 and is one-shot ahead of Maranda Smith, who is tied for 28th playing as an individual after an opening round 83. Katie Scheffer also played as an individual and shot a 92 and is tied for 46th after the opening round.

Haley Tollette of Minnesota State and Chong Yong of Missouri Western both shot opening round 75s and are tied for the team lead at three-over par. The Griffons shot a team score of 20-over par, 308, to sit atop the team standings after day one.
The second and final round will take place today March 8th, 2017.
