Gardiner Repeats in Missouri Senior Amateur
Mark Gardiner of Mascoutah, IL rode strong and steady play over two days to a four shot win in the 25th playing of the Missouri Senior Amateur yesterday at the Country Club of Missouri in Columbia. Mark started day 2 a shot behind Cape Girardeau’s Ian Soutar at three-under 69. He made five birdies against one bogey for a great 32 on his front nine Tuesday and vaulted into a lead he would not relinquish as he secured his second consecutive senior championship.
Soutar had as bad a day Tuesday as he had a good day Monday and was not a factor. Jeff Johnson matched Gardiner’s 68 on Tuesday and leapt several players into second place at three-under for the 36 holes. Wayne Frederick of Springfield and Steve Groom of Raytown finished T3 at two-under-par.
