East Side Amateur Results
Skip Berkmeyer of St. Louis came from one shot back to win his third East Side Amateur title Sunday at Spencer T. Olin GC in Alton, IL with a two round total of 139. Berkmeyer got off to a hot start with birdies on the first two holes Sunday and cruised to a three shot win in the 12th playing of the “East Side”, run by the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association. He shot rounds of 69-70 over the two days at Olin.
Ted Moloney of St. Louis finished second, while first round leader Michael Johnson had a tough second day and finished T8.
Berkmeyer, who plays in local, state, and national amateur events, won’t be at the Missouri Amateur at Buffalo Ridge June 23-28 to attempt to win the state am for a fourth time.
“I can only play in so many events, and I have to pay close attention to my playing schedule and attempt to balance family, work, and golf. I’m sorry to miss the Missouri Am this year, but my schedule just didn’t permit it. I am going back to the Sunnehanna Amateur (in PA), and plan to play in the Missouri Stroke Play in July.”
