Cuartero, Kraus Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

Mizzou Golf earns more academic honors as 2013-14 season approaches

Columbia, Mo. – University of Missouri Golf standouts Emilio Cuartero and Hunter Kraus were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday.

To earn recognition, a collegiate golfer must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least 50 percent of the team’s rounds during the year. The golfer must also carry a minimum grade-point average of a 3.2.

Both Cuartero and Kraus exceeded those standards and both will be counted on heavily to help the Tigers return to postseason play once again in 2013-14. Mizzou was a consistent presence in the national rankings last season thanks to career-best seasons from Cuartero and Kraus.

A native of Lleida, Spain, Cuartero finished second on the team in scoring average (72.2) and recorded a victory at The Farms Intercollegiate (Feb. 11-12). Cuartero logged eight Top 15 finishes as a junior and was ninth overall at the 2013 NCAA Columbus Regional, tops on the team.

Kraus was one of the Southeastern Conference’s most improved players last season and finished fourth on the team in scoring average (73.9). A native of Memphis, Tenn., Kraus recorded a pair of Top Five finishes as a junior, including a second-place finish at the Mizzou Intercollegiate (April 8-9). He was also Mizzou’s top finisher at the SEC Championships, finishing 15th overall. Kraus owns an impressive 3.92 grade-point average in Chemistry and is earning his minor in Latin.  He was named the SEC’s 2013 Scholar-Athlete of the Year in Men’s Golf.

Missouri Golf opens its 2013-14 season on Sept. 1-2 at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate. The event, hosted by Mizzou, is played in Verona, N.Y., on the Kualuhyat Championship Course.
