Bob Gaus Captures Michelob Ultra Match Play Championship

The 2015 Michelob Ultra Match Play Championship displayed the talents of more than a few Gateway PGA Professionals outside the top four seeds. In fact, three of the top four seeds did not advance to the final eight due to some brilliant play by PGA Professionals such as Jimmy Bals, Westborough CC, Matt Gindler, Greenbriar Hills CC, and Scott Brauer, Meramec Lakes. Jimmy came into the event as a 17 seed while Matt was a 26 and Scott was a 14. The field was not surprised by the good play of any of these PGA Professionals but knocking out Mike Suhre (J. Bals), Shane Blankenship & Jeff Escott (Matt Gindler), and JC Anderson (S. Brauer) was a surprise. The fourth seed, Brian Fogt, was upended by 13 seed Ty Zimmerman in the round of 16.

In the end, a familiar face recaptured the match play title that had eluded him since 2012. Bob Gaus had to muster enough energy to hold off Mike Tucker. Mike managed to bring the match to within one from being down four with only six to play. When Tucker’s birdie putt, to square the match, came up a ½ foot short on #17, it would mark the last real threat to Bob taking home the title.

A special thank you to Annbriar Golf Course for their hospitality and support of another great Match Play Championship. A big thank you to Michelob Ultra for sponsoring our first major of the season.
