The Champions Tour recently announced their four awards for the best tournaments in 2014. The tour stop held in Branson this June, Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf presented by Bass Pro Shops, won the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Champions Tour.
The statement from the Tour said, in part: “…which excelled with the historic team event being partly contested on the nine-hole Top of the Rock par-three course in Ridgedale, MO. The venue was officially announced in January and played in June—surely the shortest lead time for any PGA Tour sanctioned event in memory. The community embraced the event with more than 1,000 volunteers contributing to its outstanding success. Fred Funk and Jeff Sluman won the tournament while Jim Colbert and Jim Thorpe claimed its unofficial Legends Divison.”
We know how much work went into pulling off a successful tournament with very little lead time. Johnny Morris, owner of Bass Pro Shops and Big Cedar Lodge, should be justifiably proud that he and his people, along with the volunteer community in Branson, came through with flying colors and we now have a wonderful and unique Champions Tour stop at the Top of the Rock and Buffalo Ridge courses. The tournament will return to its usual April date starting in 2015 and will be conducted April 22-26.
