MACOMB, Ill.- After 36 holes at the Beu/ Mussatto Invitational, the No. 3-ranked William Woods University men’s golf team is leading by four strokes, as they shot a 14-over par 590 (301-289), on a very cold and windy day.
The Owls lead both Indian Hills CC and Bradley University, who are in a tie for second, after scoring an 18-over par 594. Nebraska-Omaha, is in fourth, after totaling a 30-over par 606 (313-293), while IUPUI, is in fifth, as they totaled 37-over par 613 (309-304).
Sophomore Matt Wells shot two rounds of an even-par 144 (72-72) and is leading individually by two strokes over sophomore David Houlding, who ended the day with a 2-over par 146 (75-71).
Senior Stan Gautier is tied for 13th, after shooting a 6-over par 150 (77-73), while Scottish native Alasdair McDougall, closed out in 16th place, as he totaled a 7-over par 151 (78-73). Senior Julian Taylor is tied for 30th, as he finished with a 12-over par 156 (77-79).
Playing as individuals Jack Clarkson (85-73) and Will Rushworth (82-76) are tied for 34th, after scoring a 14-over par 158. The duo made drastic improvements from the first round, as Rushworth, shot six strokes better, while Clarkson, improved my 12. Freshman Mark Martin, meanwhile, is tied for 39th, as he totaled a 16-over par 160 (83-77).
“It was a very good round and I felt mentally ready,” said Wells. “I stayed very patient and did not make many mistakes.”
The Owls will tee off tomorrow at 8 a.m. paired with Indian Hills CC and Bradley University.
