
24th Metropolitan Amateur First Round Recap
The 24th Metropolitan Amateur got underway on Thursday at Westwood CC in Creve Coeur with a full field of over 140 St. Louis area players competing.
Patrick Riordan of Normandie GC got off to a blazing start with four birdies in his first six holes and a lone double bogey on the 9th offset by seven birdies and a five-under 66. Skip Berkmeyer of Aberdeen GC was next with a three-under-par 68 that left him well within hailing distance of Riordan in his quest for his second Met Am title. St. Louisan and Kansas State player Kyle Weldon, in search of a record-breaking third consecutive Metropolitan Championship was not out of touch of the leaders with a first round 72.
There are five players under par and another seven at even-par 71 as the second of three rounds goes off on Friday. The field will be cut to low 40 and ties after today before the final round on Saturday.
