The four classes of state high school golf championships took place May 19 and 20 and sites in and around Springfield and in Cape Girardeau. The team and individual results are as follows:
One of the top rated courses in the state, The Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, hosted the Class 4 (large schools) tournament. The Bruins of Rock Bridge HS in Columbia scored a convincing eight stroke win over runner-up DeSmet Jesuit HS in St. Louis. Their two top players, Matt Echelmeier and Jack Knoesel, finished second and tied for eighth respectively. Rockhurst (650) and St. Louis U. High (651) rounded out the top four.
On the second day of stroke play, the wind presented a significant additional challenge to the demanding layout as it blew 20+ MPH the entire day and sent scores soaring. The greens got even faster than they were on Monday and club selection became a difficult task for the field. Only three players managed three-over 74s, including the individual winner Brad Carpenter from Washington HS. Carpenter was a co-leader after day 1 with a 71, but pulled away from the large group of contenders to win by six over Rock Bridge’s Echelmeier. Raymund Gonzales of Parkway South shot 74 on day two and captured third and Joshua O’Hearn from Timberland and Frankie Thomas from Marquette finished tied for fourth.
Pembroke Hill HS in Kansas City won the team title at Fremont Hills CC outside Springfield with a 637 two-day total. Logan-Rogersville HS and MICDS from St. Louis both finished three shots back at 640, and Notre Dame HS (Cape Girardeau) finished fourth.
Davis Palen (Logan-Rogersville) and Brett Windsor (Boonville) tied for medalist honors at three-over 145.Gabe Wheeler from Sikeston HS took third and Andrew Lilly from MICDS finished fourth.
Silo Ridge G &CC in Bolivar was host to the Class Two tournament. Barstow HS finished four better than Whitfield School to win the team championship. Lamar HS got third and Eugene HS finished fourth.
Kory Franks (Blair Oaks) shot 147 for a three shot win over Walker Kesterson of Southern Boone. Sean Mulkey of Ash Grove and Landon Maberry of Lamar HS took third and fourth respectively.
